Create Ideal Colonization Conditions

Incubators traditionally create the ideal temperature for mycelial growth when used in a lab setting. By using a seedling heat mat, you can create a similar effect using materials you have already at home, or that can be easily sourced from your local store. Combine a heat mat with a tote or container to create your own DIY Incubator at home!

For fungi incubation and colonization, you can use a heat mat to raise the ambient temperature in a small area, resulting in ideal conditions for mycelial growth. 

Place the mat in a small enclosed area dedicated to your incubation, preferably an insulated chamber or small tote. 

Be sure to monitor the temperature with a thermometer or sensor, and aim to maintain a consistent temperature below 80 degrees Farenheit wherever you place your fungi for incubation.  

For best results, place mat below a wire rack or shelf with mycelium atop the wire rack - avoid direct contact with the mat to prevent overheating.
